We splurged on a fully-adjustable king bed during covid. At that point, we had been on the same mattress for almost 20 years, and it was a hand-me-down to begin with. Chris laughed when I told him the price of the base model mattress, but agreed to browse the store (after a dinner date at the adjacent restaurant) the following evening.
Two chicken sandwiches, two light beers and a split wedge salad later, we waddled over to the mattress store in our masks and took the tour. Connie said we were allowed to take our time, encouraging us to try each one lying down, being mindful to use a pillow paper sheet like a toilet bowl cover for your face. This was during the early days of re-entry, when we were allowed to go out again but everywhere you went felt like the backdrop of an apocalypse movie.
Every Pam deserves a quality mattress.
Once the mattress came home to live with us, I permanently took to the bed and became one of Charlie’s Willy Wonka grandparents, I’ll admit. But only since January 2021 when it was delivered; I definitely put in some work before that. Furthermore, my youngest was 15 by January of 2021, well beyond his formative years! Besides, once your kid gets his drivers’ permit, the majority of your parenting work can be done from a zero gravity position.
